Serving in our Community

Providence Presbyterian at Service in our Community

At Providence, serving our community is not just what we do, but it is who we are. As people of faith, we are called to share God’s love and light to all, but especially to those in need.

Matthew 25:35-40

35

“ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

We have a diverse array of opportunities

We have a diverse array of opportunities for our congregation to serve those in need in Charlotte and our surrounding community.  These include our Outreach Committee, Circles, Men & Women Small Groups and Youth, among others. This capacity to help others is a blessing for our members as much as for the people we serve.

PPC Outreach Committee

Our Outreach Committee plans a year in advance – making priorities for our time and talents based on need and passion.  We re-evaluate these selected organizations every year, encouraging the best use for the greatest need.  Following is the calendar of initiatives for the 2023-2024 Year.  Many events are yearly and occur that same time every year.  Our members look forward to working with these organizations, staff and volunteers and also engaging in new opportunities highlighted.  In addition to the website, you will find each campaign highlighted for their month in the communique, bulletin, and moment for mission.  In addition to these campaigns, the Outreach Committee Benevolence budget aligns their donations to these same organizations.

Other Outreach opportunities

It doesn't stop there

Beyond these tangible efforts toward food, housing, education, clothing, toiletries, and Christmas toys for our neighbors, our members share of themselves by volunteering their time throughout the year to these and other organizations, including QC Family Tree, Salvation Army Center of Hope, PPC gleaning garden food harvest and Urban Ministry.  A special annual event is a Weekend of Service where we recruit a church-wide volunteer effort.

We are always seeking new ways to extend the love of Christ out into our community.  Please contact the church office to learn more about these opportunities and plan to join us!
